YOUR HOSTS

Jonathon Fonos has lived and worked in and around Dore Lake his whole life and is a well-experienced fishing guide. He has been a fisherman, a trapper, a fireman, a logger, a carpenter, and knows Dore Lake and surrounding area like the back of his hand. Jon loves to tell stories about his adventurous life in the north as well as sharing the history of the area with anyone who is interested. He is the man behind Fonos Fish and viral TikTok filleting videos. He has been selling fresh, locally caught fish previously at the Saskatoon Farmer’s Market, recently at Saskatoon’s Little Market Box, as well as to restaurants and retail outlets all around the province for more than 20 years.

Margot Fonos grew up in Saskatoon, attended the University of Saskatchewan, worked at the Saskatoon Star Phoenix newspaper, then spent much of her life raising her two boys while teaching in various locations around the province. She is now retired from teaching and has taken up new responsibilities working at Fonos Fish and The Reel Retreat as well as spending any downtime with her beloved grandchildren.

When Jon and Margot married, she joined him in Dore Lake. Jon and Margot’s love of nature, fishing, and the outdoors have helped them create a welcoming retreat where all can enjoy beautiful Dore Lake and everything it has to offer. Jon and Margot love meeting and hosting groups from all over and value all the new friendships they have made through the retreat over the years! It’s the best job ever!
